Shafter, CA Approves Public-Private Partnership with Smart Fiber Networks to Expand Broadband Infrastructure

Big news from the Central Valley! Smart Fiber Networks is proud to announce a new partnership with the City of Shafter, CA, to bring fast, reliable fiber internet to the entire community.

On July 16, the Shafter City Council officially approved a Public-Private Partnership (P3) agreement with Smart Fiber Networks. This means we’ll be working hand-in-hand with the city to build a brand-new, 100% fiber-optic broadband network—one designed to serve residents, local businesses, city departments, and more.

At Smart Fiber Networks, we believe internet access should be treated like the essential utility it is. Whether it’s students doing homework, entrepreneurs growing their businesses, or families streaming their favorite shows, dependable internet is non-negotiable in today’s world. That’s why we’re committed to delivering high-speed fiber where it’s needed most—especially in cities like Shafter that are planning for a connected future.

“This partnership represents everything we believe in: smart infrastructure, local collaboration, and long-term investment in the communities we serve,” said Stephen Stukas, CEO of Smart Fiber Networks. “We’re honored to have earned the City of Shafter’s trust and are excited to get to work.”

What makes this partnership unique is its structure. Instead of doing it alone, Shafter chose a P3 model, allowing the city to stay involved in shaping the network while avoiding the full cost of building and maintaining it. It’s a smarter way to expand broadband access without compromising quality or control.

With this network, we’re not just talking about faster Netflix or smoother Zoom calls (though you’ll get those too). We’re laying the groundwork for digital equity, economic growth, and future-ready infrastructure.

Construction planning is already underway, and we’ll be sharing updates as the project moves forward.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve Shafter and look forward to helping this vibrant city stay connected for decades to come.
